Van Eric was born and raised in Norfolk Virginia. He studied glass as a non degree seeking student in the Craft Materials Department at Virginia Commonwealth University. During these dedicated years Mr. Harned learned from many accomplished glass artists such as Kent Ipsen, Emilio Santini and Rick Schnieder.
With this knowledge, Van Eric has continued on to work as various glass studios in Richmond and Hampton Roads while congruently becoming proficient and working professionally in the fields of carpentry, culinary arts, audio visual and sound. Currently Mr. Harned is a Studio Assistant at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio and is an independent visual artist. Mr. Harned’s dualistic approach to making has permeated is career, he is constantly exploring the applied arts and seeking knowledge in the creative hands on fields of music and visual arts.
Van Eric Harned is a unique individual. He constantly challenges himself and compares life to art and art to life. He believes in limitless ability and learning through various areas of artistic creative explorations. This fall Mr. Harned has a solo exhibition of new work in Gallery 102 at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio.
